Devils in Disguise

As many of you know, the free concert series, Rhythm on the River, hosts various bands that come and play at the River walk amphitheater every Saturday from 6 to 9PM.  Tomorrow the band known as Devils in Disguise will be preforming.  They are an Americana/Roots Music based band and this would be a perfect opportunity to relax and listen to some great music after a day on the river.  Hope to see you there!

The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow

For the past couple of days in the greater Columbia area there has been nothing but rain and lightening to keep everyone indoors.  Everyone needs to keep their fingers crossed and hope that the weathermen are right and this wet spell will quickly come to an end.  The Weather Channel is predicting that tomorrow, Saturday the 19th, will be a beautiful day, mostly sunny, and reaching 82 degrees!  After all of the time we've been spending inside, a fun and exciting trip paddling/floating down the river would be a great way to end this rainy week.  We can't wait to see you at the river so we can help you make the most out of the beautiful sunny days coming up!

High Waters

Yesterday the river levels were quite high!  The Palmetto Outdoor Center Team took a leisurely paddle down stream and saw the effects of the high, fast moving water.  As the  P.O.C. Team made their way under the Broad River Bridge they noticed something interesting occurring near the shore.  As some of you may know, there has been construction to widen the road there for some time.  The recent rains have caused many to worry about the construction equipment and for good reason.  The barge that a crane had been sitting on started to slide in to the water and float down stream!  Thankfully the barge managed to stay in place and the crane was not lost but it was a crazy experience to witness and a reminder how strong and forceful the rivers can be!

Shape Up for Summer

Looking to get into shape this summer?  Well, here at the Palmetto Outdoor Center, we have a great way for you to burn some calories and enjoy the sun!  Did you know that you will lose approximately 375 calories per hour kayaking at a steady pace?  If kayaking isn't your thing, we also offer tube rentals!  Tubing may not require as much energy, but everyone loves to jump off the tube to cool down and swim for a bit, and swimming uses every muscle in your body, so you bet you'll be burning some calories!  Why not get out there, enjoy the river, and feel better about yourself after?  We hope to see you at the river soon!
